Summertime Sadness

In winter I always imagine how awesome and cool summer is going to be. I would do so many things. I would read, watch films and do a million of DIY projects. I would eat ice-cream every day and meet up with friends and we would have road trips and not care for a single thing in this world.
And now. I just sit inside my home trying hard to ignore the fact that summer is actually here but I feel like staying locked in my room forever. Doing nothing other than pitying myself and wondering what time will bring.

Ce jeu

Owl Attack!
I'm currently trapped in a game called studying law. And it's weird. I love it and hate it at the same time. Last year, when I was still deciding on what to study a friend of mine said: "Law? Well I think you will find yourself there. It will broaden your horizons!" She was right. Almost everyday I discover, piece by piece, how the system works, we discuss different dilemmas regarding law and justice and I'm often quite amazed by complexity of law in general. Also, I realised how much responsibility you have to accept as a judge, making decisions that will quite possibly change someone's life. You simply have to do your best all the time. I could go on and on describing things that impressed me during lectures this year, which is very good. I think I found my niche. In a way.

There are also many things that trouble me. I'm not completely sure if this is what I truly want. Yes, it interests me a lot and studying for hours and hours is not a problem for me. But. Oh there is always a but. I don't have a clear vision of what I want to do in my life. I don't know if I'm willing to work my ass off only to realize at 40 that I did nothing but study and work and that youth slipped away without me even noticing. Also, I don't quite fit into the image of a law student. Law students don't wear flower head-bands, tulle skirts, flatform shoes and pastel lipsticks. They don't do cool collages, they don't indie-dance their shoes off or spend the majority of their free time making how-to-escape-to-Berlin plans with their best friend. They simply do not. Therefore I feel lonely at uni and I don't know if this is ever going to change.

To sum up. Is being interested in what you study enough to ignore the fact that you don't actually like the social environment you are in? Who knows. I guess I will have to wait and see what happens.

a surrealistic collage

So I was feeling a bit weird today, but instead of sleeping the day away (or studying), I decided to do something productive with my strange mood.

I love René Magritte. He was a Belgian painter that lived through both of the world wars and hanged with Dalí, Breton, Miró, Bunuel and other amazing people. I recently visited an exhibition in Vienna and was fascinated by the aesthetics and the philosophy behind his works, but mostly by the feel they were giving out.

My inspiration were:

Lovers by René Magritte
Infinite Gratitude (don't you love the title?), Magritte

What I did was wrap my head in a white chiffon I found in the garage, take a picture, print it, cut the part I wanted out and then make a collage. After I glued the things together I photographed it again and this is what came out:

I didn't want to make the exact copy of Lovers (and not only because I don't have a second person) but I went with the clouds and a mirror which are symbols Magritte used a lot. And the lettuce is just random.
It was fun to do and if I had any clear walls left in my room, I would hang the collage there.

Sincerely, Rapunzel

WE ARE

My photo
Best friends who are quite bored all the time and whose greatness and awesomeness is being ignored by society. Besides that, they love glittery makeup, things that shine in the dark or randomly fly in space, analogue photography, kitsune maison compilations, cats, dogs, and of course, alpacas. C'est ça.
