29.3.13

morning melancholia

Hello darlings,
these photos were taken on the 1st of January. We woke up tired, outside was grey, cold and uninviting. We were anything but excited about the new year starting, it would be nice to just freeze time the previous night, keep alive the feeling of something new coming. Rather, we woke up to see the same city, same houses, same clouds, to find out that the weight of life we felt the previous year didn't go away. But isn't it always so? I've never met anyone who would change themselves or their lives just because they've reached a certain year or age. Oh, it's 2013, let's do more sports. No.

Only when your habits, mind processes or looks become unbearable to you, when you can't live with them anymore, you gather strength to make a change.

Aren't they lovely, my friends, my dearests?

Sincerely,

Rapunzel

New Year's Evening Ennui

These photos were taken on New Year's Eve. Yes, that was quite some time ago, but at the beginning of January always comes a flood of ugly party photos with drunk people's red faces on them. These are nothing like it. My lovely friends, glitter, fur, velvet, disco - it was a good, good night, full of shiny things and silly deeds.

New theory

It was more than a year ago, my nineteenth birthday, and I wasn't feeling particularly well. Rapunzel came to my place so I wouldn't be alone. We sprinkled our lips with golden glitters and wrapped our bodies in fur. We took photos with my plastic camera and pretended we were models. I remember we talked about our lives and the future long into the night.

"We should start a band." I said to her a couple of days ago. I think we could do amazing things together.

With love,

Kinovember

From 7th until 18th November there was a film festival in Ljubljana. It happens every year, but this was the first time when we really let our love for films shine. We watched twelve (12) films together, therefore the majority of time in the past week was spent in different cinema halls, where the stories and characters took us to distant places which were sometimes filled with emotions unknown to us, but represented so beautifully we were easily affected.

Of course, not all the films were amazing and exhilarating, yet there was not a single one which would make us leave the projection before its end and no one even came close to the agony we went through last year, while watching Bela Tarr's The Turin Horse.

It was very nice (and probably not so smart) to put our studies at hold for a while and pretend we are not two busy students, but just two ordinary filmophiles who have all the time in the world to watch films all day and who wish from the bottom of their hearts smoking would again be allowed in dusty, old cinematheques.

Anyway, here's what we saw in order of preference:
Leos Carax: Strangulation Blues + Boy Meets Girl

Benh Zeitlin: Beasts of the Southern Wild
Denis Hopper: Easy Rider
Hartmut Bitomsky: Highway 40 West-Reise in Amerika
Aida Begić: Djeca (Children of Sarajevo)
Alejandro Brugués: Juan de los Muertos
Benoit Jacquot: Les adieux a la Reine
Cate Shortland: Lore
Babis Makridis: L
Quentin Dupieux: Wrong
Jonathan Demme: Something Wild

Too many protest singers, not enough protest songs

This is the look I've been giving to people at uni this whole week. It's student council election time, which means you cannot walk freely around the halls, without a crazy person following you and shoving propaganda leaflets into your face. There is a tough competition between three parties and I have trouble deciding which one annoys me the most. Probably the one who has a picture of its president on a leaflet. He is sitting in a library (because he is so so smart and hard working) but then if you look closely you can see that he has an iPad on his table (instead of a pile of books) and you can see his Facebook profile pic on it. Great success.

Also, I've finally realized something:

Socializing is not my thing. Or maybe this is just an excuse I tell myself to feel better, because I don't seem to be capable of making new acquaintances.

Surprisingly, good things are happening as well. For example, I watched a film Empire Records. Record store + good music + a bunch of crazy people + a girl shaves her head = literally the best thing ever.

With love,

Pie

Berlin photos

For the last Berlin-related post, here are some random photos from the nights & days spent in the fabulous city. Some of them were taken with Diana and some with a normal digital camera.

So long, Berlin, so long, friends! Until next time...

Ich habe noch einen Koffer in Berlin (I still have my suitcase in Berlin)

That's why I have to go there sometimes soon. Sang Marlene Dietrich in one of her songs. The lyrics describe our feelings exactly. The joys of days spent in Berlin are all locked in the suitcase waiting for us to come back.

Those three weeks we spent there were probably the best thing that has ever happened to us. It might sound silly, but that is exactly how we feel. The city itself is so amazing. It's extremely slow paced and relaxed and it amazes you with charming things which are found in completely random places.

Berliners seem to be highly open-minded and easygoing, accepting everyone. (Well, except from the guards in Berghain. They definitely come out quite judgmental when deciding on who to let in into their hell-hole). Oh yes, clubbing in Berlin is fun fun fun! Clubs with huge gardens and secret corners with abandoned armchairs and mini-vans and clubs which transform over the night into something completely different. And partys where you dubstep your shoes off or where you dance on the yard and have a live gig at 7.00 welcoming the sun that has come up.

But the most amazing thing that happened to us in Berlin wasn't the city, but simply, our friends. (Hooray for the cheesiness!). The first day of our german course (Yes, Rapunzel and I actually went to Berlin to learn Deutsch) at GLS we met the boys with whom we spent most of the time. Oh we were definitely the coolest group of friends. Peter, philosoper, with his concepts who are, by no doubt, going to be something really successful one day and his (un)successful attempts to make Rapunzel go on a date with him were hilarious. And then there was Miki, future lawyer from Czech, whose english vocabulary was pretty much like Cartman's from South Park and who was probably the most chilled person we've ever met. Seriously, man! And last but not least our darling Maxim, russian living in London, the sweetest person ever alive and our clubbing and shopping fella. And first gay friend, actually!

Miki

Max, looking fab.

We really had an awesome time together and the most wonderful thing was that Rapunzel and I were probably for the first time really ourselves among a group of friends, not really worrying what others will think. They taught us an important lesson. We can be whatever we are, because we are great. And if we don't feel happy in Slovenia, we must get the hell out of it. Word there.

We sort of made a plan to stay in Berlin for ever and  we would be part-time bloggers and artists and Rapunzel would make contemporary videos. It would all be so wonderfully pretentious and we'd never sleep. But the plan went wrong obviously, because Rapunzel and I are back at home. Crying most of the time because it had to end so soon and missing everyone and everything.

Berlin stole our hearts.

WE ARE

My photo
Best friends who are quite bored all the time and whose greatness and awesomeness is being ignored by society. Besides that, they love glittery makeup, things that shine in the dark or randomly fly in space, analogue photography, kitsune maison compilations, cats, dogs, and of course, alpacas. C'est ça.
